The Two Classes of Beans, Bush & Pole
There are a whole lot of different varieties of beans. So to make it all clear for you, I have divided beans up into two large categories, Bush and Pole Beans. More than anything the differences are in the way they grow. So this effects which container to use when you plant them. If it is a Pole bean you will need to place the container near something for it to grow on, such as the arms of a flying Nun Vivero. The bush beans are recent hybreds that have been developed so as to have a more controlled commercial production method. This is something like what was done with the determinate tomato plants. They too are bushes not vines anymore.
Bush Beans:
- are short to medium bushes
- support themselves
- produce more quickly
- grow well in a 15lt Hydro-organico container
- produce and perish
- are a modern phenomenon
- produce their own fertilizer if inoculated
Pole Beans :
- are vine-like plants
- will need a structure to grow on
- works well growing on a Flying Nun
- produce for quite a while
- do not perish after producing
- produce their own fertilizer if inoculated
- are an ancient vegetable
