Capsicum Baccatum PeppersĀ are comprised mostly of Aji’s from South America, most notably from Peru. However there are others such as the famous Peppadew that is from South Africa. Baccatum Peppers are known for having a sweet citrus or fruity flavor and a habaneroy taste. Most of the baccatum varrieties have pods which are very slow to ripen so the growing season is long. C. baccatum species have white or cream colored flowers, and typically have a green or gold corolla. The flowers are either insect or self-pollinated. Over the years the fruit have been cultivated into a wide variety of shapes and sizes, unlike other capsicum species, which tend to have a characteristic shape with the pods typically hanging down.
